Two Springfield Police Officers Retire Monday

SPRINGFIELD – Officers Joel-Bernard Stern and Officer Michael Brock have both retired from the Springfield Police Department effective Monday, March 30.

Stern served the city of Springfield for 28 years and served his country in four different branches of the military, including four combat tours. He was a Marine for 14 years, in the Army Reserve for five years, served the Navy for eight years and the Air National Guard for four years.

Stern was a member of the Springfield Police Honor Guard and a Medal of Valor recipient among his many commendations. Over his career as a police officer, Stern is credited with saving 21 lives.

Brock retires with 32 years of service to Springfield as a Patrolman and several commendations.

Both Brock and Stern were part of a group of six officers in 2010 credited with saving a West Springfield man’s life after an industrial accident.

Brock and Stern were preceded this month by Lt. Arthur D’Ambrosia, who retired after 35 years of service to Springfield.
