SPRINGFIELD – An officer with the Springfield Police Department has tested positive for COVID-19.
If is unclear how the officer contracted the virus.
The Department reported the officer’s symptoms are not severe and that he entered into self-quarantine while awaiting the test results.
Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno and Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood have spoken with the officer and made staff aware of the test results.
The Springfield Health Department is investigating if any other officers or civilian staff should be tested.
Due to healthcare privacy laws, the officer will not be identified.
